Once your up to a mile each day start adding a little more distance each week until your up to 2 miles.

And like I mentioned previously, when you start walking continuously, try minimizing your food intake or even eating much healthier foods. You don't have to try everything at once, baby steps will be your secret weapon to success.

Starving yourself is certainly not the answer to your issues, and neither is exercising for 3 or 4 hours every single day. You can start off small and work your way up to increased degrees of exercise and start watching what you eat. It is possible to get fit if you follow everything here, and yes it all begins by taking a stroll.
