Why Drink Water To Lose Weight

People on weight loss programs really hate being told how much water they should be drinking to successfully lose weight.

It’s not just the thought of drinking boring old water that doesn’t appeal, it’s the required volume. Here’s the bad news, It’s all true! Even worse, drinking more than the recommended daily amount (RDA) will improve your chances of losing weight.

Let’s start with the RDA; the FDA says 64 ounces of water should be drunk every day.

It’s usually quoted as 8 glasses of 8 ounces spread across the course of the day. If you’ve had trouble losing weight in the past however, you might want to drink even more.

Drinking 8 pint glasses of boring old water in a single day might seem daunting at first, especially if you’re one of those folks who don’t drink much of the stuff in the first place, but don’t panic, it’s not that hard.

Here’s a word of advice though; go to the store and buy one of those jug based water filters. For not a lot of cash, you’ll pick up a filter that will take out all of the chemicals most cities leave in your tap water.

We’re trying to improve our long term health here, and drinking lots of processed water might be more detrimental to your health than not drinking enough of the stuff in the first place! It can be easier to buy water, but when you do the taste test on your own filtered water you’ll realize there’s no point in wasting money on spendy bottled brews again.

Ok, so what’s the big deal? Why do we need all this water? The truth is, water is the major element in every process that goes on in our bodies and is the key ingredient in the metabolism of fat.

Fat is found in food in mostly 3 forms; triglycerides, the form that fat is stored as a fuel; phospholipids, and sterols, most commonly cholesterol.

Consider this; fat is more than twice as energy dense as carbohydrate. It does not require much water to store it either.
If humans stored energy in carbohydrate form, a typical woman storing 10lbs of fat would need to carry 65lbs of carbohydrate and water to meet the same energy demands.

Our water needs for burning fat are quite different. The metabolism of fat to energy can only take place in plenty of water. If there’s not enough water in the system, the body simply shuts down the process and looks for other ways to satisfy its energy needs.

If you don’t have enough water in your body, the fat won’t burn as efficiently as it should and you will plateau much faster than you otherwise might if you’re drinking plenty of the stuff.

If you’re feeling bloated, the chances are you are retaining water. It’s unlikely you feel thirsty either. If this is you, your body is storing as much fluid as it can because it can’t trust you to drink enough to keep it well hydrated.

The secret to eliminating the swelling or bloating is to drink more water in order for your body to start believing you’re drinking enough to give up its storage capacity.

If you drink the 8 cup RDA for water, you’ll find your water retention decreasing and the bloated feeling will pass after 3 or 4 weeks. You’ll also stop having to run to the restroom as much after that time because you will have reached a transition known asthe Breakthrough Point when your body will stop expelling the water it has been storing.

Now you’ll find water is transported to the muscles and skin, making the muscles pop and the skin glow. The body is using your 8 cups per day and you’ll notice a wonderful change in your health and fitness.
