No one, whether male or female, wants to be called fat, right? Even kids have their own ideas of what the word "fat" means, and they too, if you have the time to ask them, agree that it is something not at all pleasing.
Overweight teens are easy targets of bullying at school too, and many of them grow up scarred and embarrassed for the constant bullying. And as if it's not enough, the derogatory word "fatso" is used globally to ridicule overweight people.
According to the results of National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) conducted in 2007-2008, indicate that 34% of adults aged 20 and up are in fact overweight.
This is not good for the overall health of the country. Obesity is considered to be closely linked to other chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
In other words, the likelihood for an obese to develop life-threatening health problems is higher than those people with normal weight. Experts say that there are certain ways to reduce weight.
One is by having a regular, proper diet. By proper diet, we mean only eating particular kinds of food, on regular intervals, and nothing more. This method is proven effective by many people. In fact, countless books about health and diet have been published through the years, several of them even bestsellers.
The idea of having proper diet paved the way for many food manufacturers to create brands that appeal to the health-conscious.
Food or drinks packaged as low-on fat, less sugar, no sugar, low in calorie, high in fiber among many others flood the market, all for the sake of making the brand "healthier."
Going on a diet does not convince all people to try it though. For one, a lot of people really like to eat food. And two, it is not certain if everyone has got the necessary level of discipline needed to successfully give up on certain foods that they like. In other words, dieting can only be truly successful if one can completely let go of his/her craving for "unhealthy" foods.
Another way to lose weight is by having regular exercise. No one argues that exercise is really good for the health. However, in today's world where many people lead very busy lives, going to the gym for a workout is just not possible.
Fitness experts have realized that busy people have very limited free time, so they were able to devised simple 10 or 5 minute workouts. However, in order to get good results workouts should be done with consistency, and perhaps a little bit of diet too.
Perhaps the most convenient form of reducing weight is by taking weight loss supplements. Among dietary supplements, though, the ones that are recognized to be really safe are those that only contain natural ingredients.
However, there is a big problem with regard to taking weight loss supplements. The FDA does not have a clear regulation about health supplements. That is why, even for products that are marketed to contain natural products, unfortunate events may still happen to those who use them.
Take the case of Hydroxycut, one of the most popular brands of dietary supplement manufactured by MuscleTech Research and Development. In 2009, US Food and Drug Administration issued a warning after it was found out that it caused serious side effects to some of its users, with at least one confirmed dead.
This led to a total recall of products in the market, and numerous lawsuits. Since then, Hydroxycut has been "reformulated" and re-introduced to the market. Whether or not the new Hydroxycut formulation will hold true to its promise is still a thing to see.
Reducing weight is a big problem to many people. And experts have always been looking for the most effective and convenient way to do it.
At the end of the day, whether a person tries to go on a diet, have a regular workout or just use dietary supplements, success only comes to those who do it with a lot of effort, dedication, and consistency.
I have recently set up a page on my blog where people can go and post Hydroxycut reviews if they have used the popular weight loss supplement.
